Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is “quite satisfied” with his Formula One season in which he is engaged in a dramatic title fight with Max Verstappen.
Seven-time world champion Hamilton of Mercedes has won the last two races and trails Verstappen by eight points with two races left on December 5 in Saudi Arabia and December 12 in Abu Dhabi.
“I am more focussed than ever before. That’s why I am quite satisfied with my season,” Hamilton said in an interview published Wednesday with German magazine Auto, Motor und Sport.
Hamilton said that off track activities such as fashion and his social engagement help him get full focus during races.
He named the title fight with Verstappen a big challenge, just as getting the car set up properly in order to win races.
“Toto (Mercedes motorsport chief Toto Wolff) once named our car a diva. Now this car is a monster diva,” the 36-year-old Briton said.
Hamilton named Verstappen a “super fast” driver, and even more as the young Dutchman matures.
The two have had some near misses and collisions in the title fight and Hamilton said he has no regrets pulling back if necessary.
“You just have to be very careful. More cautious than ever before.
You have to know what can happen. You always have to be ready to do whatever you can to avoid a collision. Even if that means leaving the track,” he said.
“After all, you want to end the race. If you are too stubborn and defend your position, you will crash.”
