French police say more than 20 dead in Channel boat capsize

Paris More than 20 people are dead after a boat full of migrants capsized on its way from France to Britain, according to French media reports. French news agency and broadcaster BFMTV cited police. Britain’s Press Association reports that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to chair an emergency meeting to look into the circumstances surrounding the accident. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that he was deeply shocked by the tragedy. He planned to travel to the site of the accident. “We cannot stress often enough the criminal nature of the smugglers who organize these crossings,” Darmanin said. (DPA)
