The third edition of the ‘Qatar Achievements on Vocational Safety’ event was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Labour.
The event, held at Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, was organised by Sogha Advertising & Event Management and Conferences. The function was attended by Mohamed Ali Al Meer, consultant at the ministry, and other dignitaries. An awards ceremony to recognise the companies which have been following health and safety norms in the country was also part of the event.
Excellence awards were given to local companies that implemented the best occupational safety standards. In addition, Safety awards were presented to companies in various categories - small and medium enterprises, real estate, oil and gas, retail, and health sector organisations.
The companies and corporations were awarded according to different categories in safety. The winners of the awards are: Public Works Authority (Ashghal) for Best company in construction sector; Msheireb Properties for Best Real-Estate project, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) for Best Company in Health sector; Oryx GTL for Best Company in oil& Gas sector; QIMC for Best company in industry sector; Mowasalat (Karwa) for Best Company in transportation Sector; Nasser Bin Khaled (NBK) for Best Company in automotive sector; Huawei Technologies for Best Company in technology sector; QTerminals for Best Company in ports Management sector; Doha Bank for Best bank in Qatar; and Dlala Holding for Best Holding Company.
The third edition of the event highlighted the rapid strides taken by Qatar towards achieving modernity and gage an account of the massive development accomplished by the country in a short period of time. It also emphasized Qatar’s keenness to providing affordable housing for labourers; guaranteeing their fundamental rights; making them presentable; and supporting them with adequate compensation when they are unable to work.
One of the many missions of the ministry is to upgrade the performance of the government apparatus, control and develop the performance of the labour market to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
The ministry is supporting occupational safety in various sectors and raising safety awareness among workers to avoid accidents at worksites. The ministry confirmed its implementation of various programmes and training workshops in the field of safety, security and health, in cooperation with different governmental entities to ensure high level of awareness and commitment to the rules pertaining to safety regulations.
Khalifa al Muhanadi, chairman of Sogha Advertising, said: “The book is going to be a real eye opener for the whole world as it describes how the workers involved with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar are adhering to the international safety standards and occupational safety guidelines.”
He added: “We feel privileged to be part of the gathering today. I would like to thank the Ministry of Labour and all the sponsors for their participation.”
Ashghal was the Strategic Sponsor for the event, while NBK and Dlala Holding were the Gold Sponsors. The Silver category sponsors included Doha Bank, Mowasalat and Huawei, and the Bronze category sponsors were Al Jaber Engineering, QIMC, Alfardan Group and Qetaifan Projects.
