Qatar and Azerbaijan have agreed on the need to unify efforts, align viewpoints, strengthen mechanisms for regional dialogue in order to achieve security, stability and prosperity in the region.
Addressing a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku on Monday, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said regional security was a priority for both the countries.
“We together view the security and stability of the region as a priority, and we believe that any international or regional escalation will cast a shadow over the region, which necessitates the sustainability of international dialogue and cooperation,” Sheikh Mohammed said after a meeting with Bayramov.
Sheikh Mohammed said ensuring regional stability and promoting international peace through dialogue is a priority for Qatar along with consolidating ties with friendly nations.
With Azerbaijan, the foreign minister said, Qatar was looking forward to increasing bilateral cooperation opportunities in various fields, especially in economic and investment.
He also extended his thanks to the Azerbaijani foreign minister for the warm reception and the usual hospitality of Azerbaijan, the government and people.
The foreign minister delivered Qatar’s congratulations to the Azerbaijani government and people on the anniversary of its Independence Day, which coincides with his visit on Monday.
He wished the Republic of Azerbaijan further progress and prosperity and praised the distinguished fraternal relationship between Qatar and Azerbaijan.
Highlighting the commitment of the leadership of the two countries to develop relations on an ongoing basis, he expressed Qatar’s happiness with the remarkable development in political, commercial and economic relations between the two brotherly countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994.
Sheikh Mohammed hailed the joint economic, commercial and technical committee between Qatar and Azerbaijan which, since the signing of its establishment agreement in 2016, has contributed to the development of brotherly relations between the two countries.
He said he discussed with his Azerbaijani counterpart bilateral cooperation and ways to develop them in all fields, and reviewed the achievements made by the two countries at the political, diplomatic and economic levels. They also discussed the latest issues and developments in the region and a number of international issues.
In turn, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Bayramov welcomed the visiting delegation of Qatar headed by Sheikh Mohammed and said President Ilham Aliyev hosted HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani during the official visit. Bilateral relations between the two countries and multilateral cooperation were reviewed.
Bayramov confirmed that his meeting with Sheikh Mohammed saw discussions on matters of common interest and important international and regional developments. Stressing the importance of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with Qatar on international issues, he pointed to the culture, values and common aspirations that unite the two countries.
He said the meeting also discussed issues of investment and trade cooperation, alternative and renewable energy, potential Qatari investments in different regions in Azerbaijan, and the agreement on mutual exemption from entry visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports between the government of the State of Qatar and the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which will contribute to the promotion of tourism between the two countries. In addition to the possibility of security cooperation and strengthening cooperation with regard to multilateral relations, the latest developments in the regional area and issues of common interest were also discussed.
He also stressed that the meeting contributes to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing his country’s aspiration to continue dialogue and coordination with the State of Qatar, and to continue political consultations between the two countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan praised Qatar’s supportive stance for legitimate Azerbaijani issues in international and regional organizations, and stressed the importance of maintaining the peace-building process at the regional and international levels.— More on page 3
