Buenos Aires Researchers have once again found “mysterious crates” on the north-east coast of Brazil.
According to scientists, the mysterious cargo comes from the German ship Weserland, which was sunk by the US destroyer USS Somers off the Brazilian coast in January 1944, Carlos Teixeira from the Marine Research Institute of the University of Ceara told the television station Globo on Saturday.
What were thought to be crates are in fact rubber bales that were to be brought from Japan to Germany by the blockade runner Weserland during World War II.
Such bales had repeatedly washed up on the Brazilian coast in recent years. Many specimens came from the hold of the German blockade runner Rio Grande, which was also sunk off Brazil. (dpa)
