Qatar has condemned in the strongest terms the murder of British parliamentarian and Chairman of the Qatar All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Sir David Amess, describing the stabbing as a “horrific crime and a clear violation of human rights”.
David Amess, 69, was fatally stabbed at about noon on Friday while meeting with constituents in Leigh-on-Sea, a town about 62 kilometres east of London. The Conservative lawmaker had been a member of Parliament for 38 years.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the country’s firm position, rejecting violence and terrorism, regardless of the motives and reasons.
Sir David Amess, as Chairman of the Qatar All-Party Parliamentary Group, has made commendable and sincere efforts to strengthen relations between the two friendly countries, which is highly appreciated by Qatar’s leadership, government and people, the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry conveyed the condolences of Qatar to his family and the government and people of Britain. (QNA & TNN)
