New Delhi: One person died and 16 were injured after a car ran into a procession of devotees during a Hindu festival in central India on Friday, officials said.
Footage of the incident which went viral on social media showed the red-coloured car mowing down the group in Chhattisgarh state’s Jashpur district and speeding away. The procession, which included children, was on its way to immerse an idol of Goddess Durga at the conclusion of the Durga Puja festival. Local lawmaker Gomati Sai told reporters that the injured, several of whom suffered serious wounds and fractures, were admitted to a hospital and the death toll could rise. (dpa)
