The Thai authorities confirmed plans to permit fully-vaccinated travellers from five countries to enter Thailand without having to go into quarantine as of November 1.
Tourists from China, the US, Britain, Singapore and Germany will only have to prove they have tested negative for Covid-19 using a PCR test, according to Covid Crisis Centre (CCSA) spokesperson Taweesilp Visanuyothin, following a meeting.
Further details about the reopening were not initially available.
There will be 17 provinces open to tourists, including all of Bangkok and all of Krabi and Phangnga.
Another 16 major provinces are due to reopen on December 1, including Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, Phrae and Sukhothai. The exact locations are still being finalized, according to the Bangkok Post.
“Many countries want to let their citizens visit Thailand,” said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday. “It will be a small start, for people to resume earning a living.”
The authorities also announced further easing of measures that apply in many places nationwide.
Night-time curfew restrictions are to be reduced as of Saturday, running from 11 pm until 3 am rather than 10 pm through to 4 am, allowing restaurants and shopping malls to return to longer opening hours.
