Manila: The death toll from landslides and flash floods cause by storm Kompasu in the Philippines has risen to 13, with eight still missing, the national disaster agency said Wednesday.
The latest fatalities were a 35-year-old woman killed in a landslide and a 52-year-old man wo drowned in floods in the northern province of Ilocos Sur, the agency said. Landslides and floods earlier killed six people in the nearby province of Benguet, one in Cagayan province and four in the western province of Palawan. Kompasu has left the Philippines and is moving toward China, the weather bureau said.
But it warned that landslides and flash floods could still occur in areas battered by Kompasu due to “the high saturation of soil moisture” from the heavy rains brought by the storm. (dpa)
