Qatar University (QU) and the Embassy of the Republic of Costa Rica in Qatar have signed a letter of intent (LoI), in the presence of the Vice President of Costa Rica Marvin Rodr?guez Cordero, at an event held on QU campus.
The LoI aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation through developing programmes for academic and scholarly exchanges, and establishing scholarship schemes. The LoI was signed by Ambassador of Costa Rica to Qatar HE Mariano Segura and QU President Dr Hassan Al-Derham.
Marvin Rodr?guez Cordero commented, “The public and private universities, in association with state institutions, private companies and communities, can help promote productive and social development of peripheral and impoverished territories. Both government institutions and universities need to work hard for the empowerment of all communities and new social enterprises that are established.”
HE Mariano Seguro said, “Agreements such as the one signed today are very useful for both countries. Therefore, from our representation in Qatar, we assume the commitment to work hand in hand with Qatar University, thinking not only about strengthening diplomatic ties that unite our countries but also of the well-being of our students, teaching staff and the future of education.”
QU President Dr Hassan Al-Derham commented, “The LoI signed today is in line with QU’s strategy to expand its Graduate Studies programme and enrich it with the best talents worldwide. Through this cooperation, we open an opportunity for distinguished and talented students from Central and South America the opportunity to be a part of Qatar University’s distinctive graduate community renowned for academic excellence.”
Under the LoI, both parties agreed to establish ties of friendship and cooperation; establish specific QU scholarship schemes and reciprocal scholarships at Costa Rican institutions; promote mutual understanding, academic collaboration, cultural and personnel exchanges; and work toward more formal and binding agreements.
In line with its 2018-2022 transformation strategy, QU is keen to strengthen effective international partnerships in strategic areas and foster effective engagement with international stakeholders to enrich education, strengthen research, impact socio-economic development and enhance visibility and image.
