President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Tuesday met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), being held in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the president of Kazakhstan for the invitation to attend the sixth session of the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, and for the good reception and hospitality on Kazakhstan’s land.
He highlighted the distinguished cooperation relations between Qatar and Kazakhstan, which are seeing marked development in all fields, which include political, economic and investment avenues.
He expressed hope that bilateral relations will continue to prosper to benefit the interests of the two peoples.
The FM said that Qatar appreciates Kazakhstan’s leading role in Central Asia and its efforts that are dedicated to guaranteeing peace and stability in Asia and the entire world.
He added that Qatar appreciates the decision made by Kazakhstan in its first years of independence to give up its nuclear arsenal, which was the fourth largest in the world, stressing that the move led to international recognition of the country’s role in the global nuclear system and creating a Central Asia that is free from nuclear weapons, in addition to establishing the unique Low Enriched Uranium Bank in cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Afghanistan.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that establishing the conference from an initiative from Kazakhstan’s first President Nursultan Nazarbayev came to enhance interaction, mutual trust and to guarantee security and stability in the region.
He added that the conference, which approaches its 30th anniversary, had a positive impact on peace and sustainable development in Asia.
He expressed hope that meetings will be fruitful and that participants will exchange views on topics related to cooperation between Asian countries, as well as vital regional and international issues, to serve the common interests of the participating countries.
