A short film that previewed in Doha recently turned a spotlight on a strong warning for parents who follow unhealthy practices to make their children win in art competitions or stage shows. The film titled ‘Back Stage’ directed by Nuvaidh Nuvi and produced by Karaam VM screened at Al Sadd Royal Plaza Cinema before the invited audience to understand the relevant topic. The 16-minute-long film scripted by the director himself highlighted the silent episodes in which parents follow deleterious practices to make their children toppers in competitions.
Nuvi, the director of the film, said: “I hope the content of the film will be widely discussed. In most of the cultural programmes, parents themselves are contesting rather than children. So, sometimes, this spirit of competition crosses all limits and turns against what real art stands for.”
Watching the film, an Indian classical dance trainer at an institute in Al Wakra, who won’t like to be named, said: “A considerable number of parents approaches us to make their children winners in these art competitions. They want us to train the children in crash courses. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to learn classical dances but most of the parents didn’t understand that.”
Karaam VM, who produced the film, said: “A film of this kind that discusses social issues should be promoted. I am committed to joining with these young filmmakers who use cinema as tool for transformation.”
Even though the film may lack technical perfection, the young director and actor, Nuvaidh Nuvi, has put all efforts to convey a relevant message to audience.
Chitra Rajesh, who appeared in a lead role in the film, said: “The film has brought me to the backstage of competitive programmes that I have ignored or left with less attention in real life but the film was an eye-opener for me.”
The crew who worked behind the film were Fiyas Chavakkadu (director of photography), Ranjith K Kavumvattam (associate director), A Jeswin Antony (music), Sha (editing) Vinayak G Krishnan (lyrics) and the songs by Anisha Rajesh, Sriya Manesh and Vinayak G Krishnan.
Sriya Manesh, Nandana Rajesh, Martin Thomas, Sreejith Alakode, Najeeb Keezhariyur, Sheena Mary and Hema were the actors from Doha in the film. The screening was attended by Usman Marath, Zakariyya Vavad, Hamza Vaipeeppadam, Sunil Hasan and Sabeena Abdul Aziz, Women’s wing general secretary of Sanskriti, a socio-cultural organisation of Indian community. Jancy Janardhanan welcomed the gathering.
