Geneva: The United Nations said on Friday that representatives of Libya’s warring sides had agreed to begin the process of withdrawing all mercenaries and foreign fighters from the country.
An action plan foresees the foreign forces leaving Libya “in a phased, balanced and synchronized manner,” the UN Support Mission in Libya said in a statement after the intra-Libyan talks in Geneva.
The UN’s special envoy for Libya, Jan Kubis, called it a “historic moment” on the troubled North African country’s road to peace a democracy Libya had been mired in civil war involving numerous militias since the fall of long-time dictator Moamer Gaddafi in 2011. (dpa)
