Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) – a Qatar Foundation partner university – has opened the application process for students seeking admission for the academic year 2022. The deadline for applying is January 15, 2022.
Aspiring creatives can apply to the university’s four-year undergraduate programme that offers separate pathways leading to specialisations in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Painting + Printmaking, and Art History.
Those seeking to augment their undergraduate qualifications or enhance their existing careers can do so through VCUarts Qatar’s MFA in Design programme.
Students choosing to pursue their creative studies at VCUarts Qatar benefit from the diversity of cultures that make up the student population at the University.
This year, 302 students drawn from 34 countries including Qatar, are studying at VCUarts Qatar. Recently, the University welcomed its community of students, staff and faculty to the new academic year including its Class of 2025 comprising of 77 new students made up of 70 undergraduate and seven graduate students.
Katherine Mangum, director, Recruitment and Admissions at the university, said: “We’re keen to welcome students who are willing to push boundaries in the application of art and design for the betterment of humanity. Our university realizes that our future is one that will be driven by innovation in design thinking, and we prepare our students to collaborate, design, and think accordingly.
“By the time they graduate from VCUarts Qatar, our students are ahead of the curve. We know this because our graduates are currently in leading roles in all major industries, both in Qatar and around the world.”
As part of the application process, admission counsellors at VCUarts Qatar are available for consultations every day. Besides, the university’s website https://qatar.vcu.edu/ includes comprehensive information on application requirements and answers to frequently asked questions and programme details.
VCUarts Qatar’s alumni are currently employed throughout the world in roles as varied as art and design, film making, interior design, and incubation development. Over the last two decades, many of them have garnered international recognition on the global stage, winning coveted awards such as the Red Dot Award, the International Property Awards, and so on.
The creative work and projects of VCUarts Qatar’s students, alumni, staff and faculty have been exhibited at prestigious exhibitions in Dubai, Paris, Moscow, Hong Kong, and at the University’s home campus in Richmond, Virginia.
At VCUarts Qatar, students regularly get to take part in world-class fashion, and art and design events, and field trips to study, work and network. The University also makes it a point to invite internationally acclaimed designers and artists such as Valentino, Hassan Hajjaj, Richard Serra, Shirin Neshat, Jeff Koons, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Diane von Furstenberg, Reza Abedini, Marina Abramovi?, Wissam Shawkat, Rami Al Ali, Naeem Khan, and Hector Ayuso, to give talks, lectures, and workshops.
VCUarts Qatar’s Materials Library is the only one of its kind in the Arab Gulf region and houses a circulating collection of thousands of diverse material samples from around the world. Additionally, the university has steadily expanded and built upon its community and continuing education programs, regularly offering members of the public, and alumni, opportunities to consolidate their learning or pick up new skills.
