Doha: The Qatar Anti-Doping Committee held at the headquarters of the Qatar Olympic Committee the first founding meeting to establish its national anti-doping platform, with the aim of sending an effective strategy in line with international efforts to reduce the spread of doping in sports.
The founding meeting witnessed a wide participation of representatives of various ministries, institutions and national bodies in Qatar, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, the Public Prosecution, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the General Authority of Customs, and the Foundation Qatar Media, Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, Aspetar and Qatar Olympic Committee.
According to a statement published by the Qatar Olympic Committee, the initiative to launch the platform of the Qatar National Anti-Doping Committee comes in compliance with the obligations of the State of Qatar as a signatory to the 2003 Copenhagen Declaration, the International Anti-Doping Code and the Paris Convention issued by UNESCO in 2005, which the governments of the countries of the world signed.
Executive Director of the Qatar National Anti-Doping Committee Nasser Saad explained at the beginning of the meeting that the sports violations contained in the World Anti-Doping Code transcend national borders and affect all national institutions, which prompted the international community, through Article (7) of the agreement, to urge the parties to this agreement for national coordination. By establishing mechanisms to unite national efforts to achieve the desired goal, which is a fair sport free of doping.
The first founding meeting of the Qatar Anti-Doping Platform also included an introduction to the establishment of the Qatar National Anti-Doping Committee, its objectives and achievements, as well as anti-doping violations and laws, the International Anti-Doping Code and International Standards, the list of prohibited substances and methods in sports, and the harm of doping on Sportsmanship.
