Science India Forum (SIF) Qatar, which functions under the patronage of the Indian Embassy in Qatar, recently conducted a training session for Guide Teachers who are mentoring science projects for Qatar Children Science Congress (QCSC).
QCSC is an innovative programme to inspire and empower children, helping them expand their minds to scientific research. Since 2015, SIF Qatar is conducting the programme under various themes. This year, the theme is ‘Science for Sustainable Living’. The programme is open for school students of all nationalities.
Noted academician Dr Hemant Pande, a master trainer and mentor for various competitive exams like NCSC, INSPIRE, IRIS, ISEF, OLYMPIADS, NTSE etc., guided the participating teachers on how a simple idea gets converted into a science project and finally reach a product. He said there is a greater role for teachers to encourage students to develop ideas and help them turn them into big projects and eventually products.
Dr Hemant shared some interesting projects taken up by his students that were recognised both at the national and international levels. Dr Pande emphasised that Guide Teacher should help students get an idea all by themselves and then they should help them develop that idea further. He also advised on how to monitor the project effectively with internal assessment and to make it a winning project.
The special guest on the occasion, M P Philip, principal of Bhavan’s Public School, enlightened the audience with his inspiring talk on SMART goals. SIF Qatar thanked all the professionals, teachers, mentors and all attendees for making the event successful.
