HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), congratulated HH the Amir, HH the Father Amir and the Qatari people on the historic achievement of high jump superstar Mutaz Essa Barshim following Qatar’s second gold triumph at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Sunday.
Sunday’s glorious victory brought Qatar its second historic Olympic gold a day after weightlifter Fares Ibrahim clinched the country’s first-ever Olympic gold in the men’s 96kg category on Saturday.
HE Sheikh Joaan applauded the significant support of the HH the Amir to the Qatar’s sport movement, which remains a motivating factor behind this unique success of Qatari athletes. The QOC congratulated the country’s superstar Mutaz Barshim and appreciated his persevere and hard work, which together paid off an amazing gold medal in Tokyo 2020 Olympics to be added to his previous bronze medal in London 2012 Olympics (which was later raised to a silver) and a silver at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The QOC President said this achievement has further showcased the talent of the Qatari superstar and his upper hand in the high jump at the world level.
HE Sheikh Joaan appreciated the Qatar athletics federation’s effort in boosting the country’s athletics movement to a new standard of success at the different international arenas.
The QOC President also lauded the role of Aspire Academy in building and developing the talent of Mutaz Barshim since his early years.
“Qatar’s ninth participation in the Olympics was outstanding and impressive by all standards of success, in which athletes left no stone unturned to honour our sport movement perfectly at this bigger sport event,” said QOC President.
