The Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organised an online session on ‘Smart strategies for Mutual Fund Investment’.
The event, which received nearly 100 participants from the Chapter, was opened by Excom member Rakesh Bahety. He introduced Nirlep Bhatt, the Chapter’s chairperson, who then welcomed the audience and gave a broad outline of the various innovative initiatives of the Chapter.
The chief guest of the event, Hemant Kumar Dwivedi, First Secretary (Culture & Education) at the Embassy of India in Qatar, appreciated the Doha Chapter of ICAI for conducting professionally useful seminars for members to add value to their career, enhance knowledge and sharpen skills. Dwivedi enlightened the audience about the various areas in which the Indian Embassy is providing its guidance to the Chapter’s activities and also to the larger Indian community. In his motivational address, he assured of continuous support to the Doha Chapter of ICAI and Chartered Accountants in Qatar.
The speaker for the event was Anupam Roongta, a certified financial planner, who was introduced by Arun Somanath, Excom member, who also conducted Q&A session. Anupam led the highly insightful and educational session covering various facets of investment. He explained various categories of the funds in a detail and elaborated on the concept of ‘skin-in the game’ with relevant examples and suggested avoiding certain categories of funds. He shared valuable tips and nuances so as to ensure growth of the portfolio and capital appreciation in an engaging manner.

The Doha Chapter of ICAI was established in 1981 and is the oldest among the 43 overseas Chapters of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India. The current membership of the Chapter is approximately 350, who hold key positions in private and public sector establishments in Qatar and are actively involved in support and development of accounting profession in Qatar. The Chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members, local professionals and non-members. Doha Chapter of ICAI is the first professional membership body to be registered with Qatar Financial Centre.
