Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar HE Dr Narad Nath Bharadwaj Wagle has stressed the need for the Nepalese community to have its own cultural centre building to hold sociocultural activities.
Speaking at the community’s 9th General Convention held on the embassy premises recently, the envoy lauded the role of Non-Resident Nepali Association Qatar (NRNA) and described it as “one of the best forums worldwide”.
He said he was in talks with the concerned authorities on the need for a Nepalese cultural centre in Qatar, stressing that the Nepal Embassy and NRNA are complimentary to each other. Meanwhile, at the General Convention of the community, the members of NRNA re-elected Mohammad Muktda Musalman as chairman of NRNA-NCC, Padam Giri as general secretary, Binod Kumar Basaula as treasurer and 11 members of working committee for the next two years.
This is the first time that a chairman has been re-elected, and unopposed, for a second term in the Qatar chapter of the association. The incoming committee was sworn in by Election Committee Coordinator Ramesh Bhatta.
The participants at the General Convention also elected International Coordinating Council members from Qatar who include Naresh Shrestha, Tanka Kumar Khadka, Srita Bhandari Paudel, Ashad Hussain, Purna Bahadur Pokharia, Ramu Regmi and Tej Katuwal. These members will represent the Nepalese community in Qatar at the Kathmandu-based headquarters of the worldwide Nepalese expatriates.
Present on the occasion were Prabin Bhattarai, second secretary at the Nepal embassy; International Coordinating Committee (ICC) President Kumar Pant; ICC Vice-President Dr Badri KC; General Secretary Dr Hemraj Sharma; ICC Secretary RK Sharma; ICC Spokesperson DB Kshetri; ICC Advisor TB Kark; Middle East Coordinator Prabeen Gurung; Middle East Joint Coordinators Manoj Kumar Shrestha; Gorkhali and Rajendra Aryal; Middle East Youth Coordinator Raj Regmi; ICC Founding members, honorary council members, NCC Qatar past presidents and office bearers and members of the Nepalese business community.
