A team of Qatari students won three gold medals in the 32nd International Biology Olympiad, which was held in Portugal recently. The closing ceremony was held virtually in Lisbon on Friday, June 23.
The International Biology Olympiad is an important global science competition, held in July of every year and is hosted by one of the 76 member countries. This year, Portugal was selected to host the event.
Students of Qatar’s team participating in the Biology Olympiad underwent intensive training by supervisors of the Biology Section of the Educational Supervision Department of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which has provided the team with high-quality educational and training aids.
The team received continuous support, which reflects the enthusiasm and determination to achieve victory, excellence, obtain gold medals, and raise Qatar’s name high among the ranks of the world’s nations.
The winners are Mohammed Hussein El Rafidi, a student from Ebla Secondary School; Ahmed Eyde, a student from the Religious Institute and Noor Nahar Al Naimi, a student from Al Bayan Secondary School for Girls.
Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Fawziya Al Khater expressed her happiness and pride over Qatar’s team winning three gold medals.
She described such achievement as a forward step to project Qatar as a pioneer in science and education, and to maintain its advanced position.
This reflects the intensive training given to students by highly qualified and experienced teachers and trainers in the Science Section of the Department of Educational Supervision.
