Al Meera is hosting the 6th edition of the annual Local Date Festival, which will run until August 11, 2021.
The event being organised by Al Meera this year builds on its success in hosting the 2020 Festival and forms part of its ongoing efforts to support local products, farms and Qatari producers.
This year’s festival is being celebrated at many of Al Meera’s branches, including the recently opened Jeryan stores. The locally produced Rutab will be available to customers, along with a range of promotional offers on various types of local dates.
The 10 participating farms aim to sell 27 tonnes of dates.
Commenting on the event, Al Meera stated, “We are very proud to host the annual Local Date Festival for the second year in a row at Al Meera branches following the success of last year’s event. As a local business, we are dedicated to supporting our community, customers and local producers – not least in our commitment to the Local Date Festival, given the special place that dates hold within Qatar’s authentic culture and heritage.”
In accordance with food security and self-sufficiency as pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, Al Meera has an excellent track record in supporting national initiatives such as the ‘Together For National Products’, ‘Distinguished Product’ and ‘Qatar Farms’ programmes that help promote and market Qatari vegetables.
Al Meera also allocates its prime shelf-space and in-store display locations to Qatari products, enabling local farms to more easily benefit from its large customer base and national coverage.
