Qatar exported goods worth QR25 billion and imported goods worth QR8.3 billion, leading to a trade surplus of QR16.7 billion in June, 2021. This is an improvement of QR10.8 billion or 184.2 percent when compared with that in June, 2020, and nearly QR100 million or 0.4 percent against that in May, 2021.
According to the Planning and Statistics Authority, the total exports last month, including exports of goods of domestic origin and re-exports, represented an increase of 96.3 percent from a year ago and a rise of 0.3 percent from May, 2021. The imports jumped 21.1 percent from June, 2020, and 0.1 percent from May, 2021.
The year-on-year increase in exports was mainly due to increased shipping of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons (LNG, condensates, propane, butane, etc.), which accounted for QR14.2 billion in June 2021. This represents an increase of 91.5 percent.
Qatar also exported QR4.4 billion worth of petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals (crude) in the month, which is 185.5 percent more year-on-year. When it comes to petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals (not crude), Qatar exported supplies worth QR2.3 billion, up 122.4 percent from a year ago.
In June, 2021, Japan was the biggest importer of goods from Qatar, accounting for goods worth QR3.8 billion or 15.3 percent of Qatar’s total exports. It is followed by China with QR3.3 billion (13.3 percent) and India with QR3.2 billion (13 percent).
On the other hand, China was Qatar’s top exporter, shipping out goods worth QR1.3 billion or 15.7 percent Qatar’s total imports. It is followed by the United State with QR1.1 billion (12.6 percent) and Germany with QR0.6 billion (7.6 percent).
At QR700 million, turbojets, turbo propellers and other gas turbines and parts accounted for the single biggest share of Qatari imports in June, 2021. Year-on-year, this is an increase of 100.3 percent.
It is followed by cars and passenger vehicles at QR400 million (up 153.9 percent y-o-y) and electrical apparatus for line telephony/telegraphy, telephone sets Etc.; parts thereof at QR 200 million (up 10.9 percent y-o-y).
