Qatar on Wednesday reported 128 COVID-19 cases -- 66 among community and 62 among travellers, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said in its daily report.
Also, 116 people recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in Qatar to 222,478. A 43 year-old patient also succumbed to the virus.
Meanwhile, the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme is progressing well. A total of 3,587,683 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the programme.
As many as 6,813 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the past 24 hours alone.
With this, the MoPH said, 78.8 percent of the eligible population has now received at least one dose of the vaccine.
“98.6 percent of people over 60 -- the most vulnerable population group – has been vaccinated with at least one dose, while 93.5 percent have received both doses,” the MoPH added.
The MoPH said in recent weeks the combined impact of COVID-19 restrictions and increasing vaccination rates, and the overwhelming support of the community, has resulted in a consistent reduction in the number of new daily infections in the country.
“However, it is still important to be cautious as the second wave is not yet over and there are still two highly contagious and highly virulent strains of the virus that are actively circulating in the community,” it added.
