After a year’s delay, the 2020 Summer Olympic Games officially get underway in Tokyo, Japan on Friday.
The beach volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan had their training session at the Shiokaze Park ahead of their opening match against Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland on Sunday.
The training session was attended by the Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary-General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and the Qatar Volleyball Association Board Member Mohamed Salem Al Kuwari.
On the other hand, Qatar’s rower Tala Abujbara was hard at work preparing for the heats in the women’s sculls scheduled at Sea Forest Waterway.
Qatar’s Mohamed Al Rumaihi trained at Asaka Shooting Range. The trap shooter will begin his campaign at on July 28.
Mohamed Salem Al Kuwari, Administrator of Qatar’s beach volleyball team stressed that he confident of team Qatar’s ability to qualify for upcoming rounds and do their nation proud despite of their tough draw which placed them in Pool C where they will take on Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland in their first match on July 25.
Pool C also includes Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb of the United States in addition to Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi of Italy.
On the other hand, Qatar’s judoka Ayoub El-Idrissi who arrived in Tokyo on Monday, began his training sessions for the Games.
El-Idrissi will kick start his campaign in Men’s 66kg event on Sunday.
A total of 15 athletes will proudly represent Qatar in 7 sports at Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Team Qatar will compete in a total of 7 Sports and 6 Track and Field disciplines.
Team Qatar roster in Tokyo 2020 Olympics includes; Mutaz Barshim, Abderrahman Samba, Abubaker Hayder, Abdirahman Saeed Hassan, Musab Adam, Femi Ogunode, Ashraf Amgad El-Seify (athletics), Mohamed Al Rumaihi (shooting), Fares Ibrahim (weightlifting), Cherif Younouse, Ahmed Tijan (beach volleyball), Ayoub Al Idrisi (judo) and Abdulaziz Al Obaidly (swimming).
The Qatari women will be represented by Bashayer Almanwari in 100m and Tala Abujbara, the first Qatari female athlete to represent Qatar in rowing, at the Games.
