Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed food, gas cylinders, and stoves to Rohingya refugees in Bhasan Char, a remote Bay of Bengal Island in Bangladesh’s Noakhali
District.
Rice, pulses, oil, salt, sugar, and dried fish were distributed to 2,500 Rohingya families, while cylinders and stoves were distributed to 4,562 refugee families to address the fuel shortage.
The relief aid was distributed in the presence of local officials by the relief team of Qatar Charity’s Bangladesh office to help alleviate the suffering of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Qatar Charity places a high priority on food aid, especially in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Local officials praised Qatar Charity’s efforts in distributing food, gas cylinders, and stoves to Rohingya refugee families living on the remote island, and expressed hope that such relief efforts would continue in the future, as the refugees are facing a difficult time due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The refugees have expressed gratitude for Qatar Charity’s relief assistance, which has helped them meet their basic needs. Fatema Begum, a 30-year-old woman, claims that the food she received from Qatar Charity is enough for her family for a month. She expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity for assisting refugees in their time of need.
Solaiman, a 55-year-old refugee, stated that Qatar Charity is one of the humanitarian organizations that distributes food to refugees on a regular basis.
“We are receiving food items that will allow us to live in dignity. However, we require mosquito nets, healthcare facilities, and a schooling system,” said Shahida, a 35-year-old Rohingya woman. Qatar Charity previously provided relief aid to 4,000 fire-affected Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, which displaced nearly 50,000 refugees from their camps. Clothing, safe drinking water, and free medical services were among the items provided. Hundreds of thousands of refugees from Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar have been transported to Bhasan Char in recent months.
