The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has unveiled the 19th charging station for electric cars at Katara.
“We are glad of this cooperation between Kahramaa and Katara. This is the nineteenth station we have installed, which is the fastest charger for electric vehicles in Qatar with a capacity of 180 KW and with a direct current system that has the ability to fully charge a car in less than 10 minutes,” Kahramaa President Eng Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said.
“Kahramaa has set up several pilot stations to identify the best quality and evaluate the most suitable for Qatar. Nineteen stations have been installed and they include the Kahramaa building station in Mesaieed, a solar station. There are two stations to charge electric buses at Mowasalat Company Building — one for fast charging and the other for night charging. Kahramaa is continuously working to complete installation and operation of eight new stations in collaboration with other institutions in Qatar, like Ministry of Transport and Communications, Qatar Foundation and Qatar Museums,” he added.
Kahramaa is about to award a general tender for installation and operation of 100 electric charging stations around Qatar.
The charging stations will be installed at vital locations such as intersections, shopping malls, government buildings, hotels, as well as Metro station parking during 2021. The stations’ capacities will vary according to the location.
Around 20 percent of the stations will be implemented with renewable and clean energy systems.
This tender is part of a joint plan between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation to establish an integrated network of stations, in coordination with a number of institutions in the country such as the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the General Traffic Department and others.
