President of Rwanda Paul Kagame said manufacturing COVID-19 vaccines in the continent and providing them to the citizens will be better for Africa.
Addressing the Qatar Economic Forum on Monday, he said the African nations are establishing partnerships to enable the production of vaccines within the continent.
Kagame spoke about the way to get funding for such vaccines, and whether his country is seeking to return to the global financial markets to sell Euro bonds. He said all countries in the world are seeking to raise funds for investment due to the great damage to economies caused by the pandemic. Rwanda, which has a very good credit rating (B+) and intends to build on it, is no exception, he said noting that Euro bonds are a good option that can provide to his country the resources it looks forward to.
The Rwandan president stressed the importance of foreign investments to Africa, highlighting the future of partnerships and investments in the continent. He noted some of the problems that face the African continent, such as stability and security; so those looking to invest may not feel comfortable securing their investment, and these issues need to be addressed.
He said the establishment of a continental free trade area in Africa is one of the issues that awaits to be resolved, adding that a free trade agreement in Africa would be almost the largest in the world, and would help greatly in linking countries and creating huge markets to attract investments from other areas; because the African market is very large and attractive.
