Vladimir Darida has warned the Czech national football team against excessive euphoria at the European Championship following their opening win over Scotland in Group D.
“There was a certain optimism in the team changing room. But we know that on paper that was the easiest opponent. Now the two toughest opponents await us - and certainly the players are preparing accordingly for these two matches,” the midfielder said ahead of Friday’s game with Croatia in Glasgow.
Coach Jaroslav Silhavy added: “I still think Croatia are one of the two favourites in our group (with England) and we are third behind them.” The Czechs have already fared better than the Euros five years ago.
In France, the Czechs finished last in their group, picking up just one point.
“If we want to be successful, we need another top team performance with that certain something.
“That is the only way to win,” said Silhavy.
Patrik Schick scored two superb goals in the 2-0 win over the Scots on Monday, at the same Hampden Park stadium where they take on World Cup runners-up Croatia.
Croatia ignore
permutations
Croatia will go all out for the win against the Czech Republic and try to avoid worrying about the other Group D encounter and permutations.
“We are not in the same position as the Czechs with three points.
That’s why we need a win,” coach Zlatko Dalic told a news conference on Thursday in Glasgow.
The Czech Republic started the tournament with a 2-0 win against Scotland while World Cup runners-up Croatia lost 1-0 to England.
“Every defeat is hard,” added Dalic, who is expected to play a more attacking line-up compared to the England game where he flooded midfield.
Defender Dejan Lovren, who could return after injury, is not interested in playing for a draw in the hope England beat Scotland.
“I feel good. I’m ready,” he said. “We don’t look at the others, we only look at ourselves.”
