Qatar University (QU) Library aims to implement a number of projects to develop its services and transform itself from a mere information container to a research and scientific platform.
Among the most prominent of these projects is the QU electronic archive project, which seeks to achieve the university’s goals in digital transformation. The archive project will document the history of QU and its development from 1978 to the present. The initiative will undertake the archiving and preservation of the university’s historical registers in order to make them accessible to users.
Asma Al-Buainain, acting director of QU Library, said, “The idea of the Qatar University electronic archive project came due to the importance of the historical eras that the university has gone through and the presence of a large number of documents dealing with these eras, and their lack of availability in a single place. The project aims to collect and maintain these records and make them available for continuous access.”
Al-Buainain added: “The Qatar University Library documents the history and development of the university from 1978 to this day, and the University Archive works on archiving, preserving and making the historical records, including publications, administrative records, articles, newsletters, photographs, video and audio recordings, and oral history, available to the public.”
The QU electronic archive project will be launched soon, making the historical records available to all researchers and university affiliates, in addition to offering free access to these resources through the Qatar University Digital Hub.
In line with QU’s belief in its pioneering role in research, this platform has been updated to include all digital resources, such as articles, university publications, achievements, graduation ceremonies, newsletters, photographs and video recordings.
Qatar University Library provides high-quality information services to the university’s affiliates, its local and international partners, and to the Qatari community in general. The library has comprehensive collections of printed and electronic books, and it subscribes to many scientific databases that serve all disciplines and programmes at the university. The library also provides an information literacy programme and training in research skills.
