New York (dpa) - Several United Nations agencies have sounded an alarm about hundreds of thousands of people in the embattled Tigray region of Ethiopia who are being acutely threatened by starvation.
More than 350,000 people are living in “catastrophic conditions,” said a recent UN report, the highest number in a single country in a decade, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Programme and UNICEF said on Thursday.
An additional 2 million people “could quickly die of starvation without urgent action,” they warned.
The agencies underlined that they were ready to provide aid but first required access to the region devastated by conflict. (dpa)
