Falmouth, England How to deal with Russia will be one of the main foreign policy issues to be discussed by the Group of Major Industrialised Nations (G7) at its summit in England, sources said on Thursday.
The focus will be on “transgressions of norms” by Moscow, sources close to the German government said.
Russia is said to be behind cyberattacks, election interference, assassinations on Western territory and disinformation campaigns, among other things.
The G7 summit of heads of state and government is scheduled to be in Cornwall, England, from Friday through Sunday. The group consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, the US and the EU’s high representative.
Leaders at the summit will address how, together, the G7 will deal with these issues, the sources said.
The ban on the organizations of imprisoned dissident Alexei Navalny “shows the kind of action taken against the political opposition in the country,” the sources said.
“We as the German government condemn this step, which is intended to eliminate the opposition in Russia,” they said. (dpa)
