Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater has said that it is time the Western nations stop the unconditional support — moral, financial and political — to Israel.
“The international community should morally revisit its unconditional support to the Israeli occupation,” Al Khater said during an interview with the Sky News channel.
She said what happened in Gaza is an unequal attack by an army that possesses a nuclear weapon.
“We are not talking about an aggression from two sides, but about a country that possesses nuclear weapons, and its army is one of the most developed armies in the world, and people without a state have been suffering for decades,” Al Khater said.
She said the suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation started at least since 1948. “Hamas was founded in late 1980s.There were decades of suffering before Hamas ever existed. The international community should morally revisit its unconditional support to the Israeli occupation,” she pointed out.
She said, “Once again, it is not a matter of a two-sided aggression ... it is basically an occupation ... and Israel is the last colonial power we know of our time.”
“What happened in Gaza was catastrophic. Let’s go back to the root cause of this. It actually started with the ethnic cleansing that was happening in Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood,” she said.
Al Khater debunked the propaganda about Qatari aid going to non-humanitarian purposes.
She said Qatari aid goes to all Palestinians. “We exercise very strict measures on our aid in general and this (aid to Palestinians) has been done through the UN. Our aid is going to the electricity sector or for humanitarian purposes,” Al Khater said.
Qatar has pledged $500 million aid for Palestine and this will help rebuild homes in the coming 5-6 months, Hamad Rehabilitation Hospital, Qatar Red Crescent building and also to electricity sector.
She said that commentators from Israel who are claiming otherwise are saying it for domestic reasons and political reasons for election purposes.
“We have commissioned half a billion dollars. Most of that will be going to rebuilding houses within 5-6 months. Qatar’s aid money would help rebuild around 45 housing units, in addition to rebuilding the Qatari Red Crescent building, the Al-Jalaa building that hosted Associated Press and Al Jazeera journalists, and the Hamad Rehabilitation Hospital— all of which were demolished by Israeli airstrikes in the 11-day bombardment,” she added.
She said, “The suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation started at least since 1948. Hamas was founded in late 1980s.There were decades of suffering before Hamas ever existed. The international community should morally revisit its unconditional support to the Israeli occupation.”
