His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has congratulated Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, President of Somalia, and Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya, for their wise and courageous decision to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In a tweet, HH the Amir said, “I congratulate both His Excellency President Farmajo and His Excellency President Kenyatta for their wise and courageous decision to restore diplomatic relations between Somalia and Kenya.”
HH the Amir continued, “Our sincere wishes for the two neighbouring countries and their peoples for security and stability, and I also assure that Qatar will always be striving for good and to be a maker of peace.”
HH the Amir also held a telephone conversation with the Kenyan president on Thursday evening. During the phone call, the Kenyan president expressed his sincere thanks to HH the Amir for Qatar’s efforts and endeavours to heal the rift between Kenya and Somalia, which resulted in the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
HH the Amir conveyed his congratulations to the President of Kenya for this wise decision.
HH the Amir also held a telephone conversation with President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo. During the call, the Somali president expressed his thanks to HH the Amir for Qatar’s efforts to heal the rift between Somalia and Kenya.

Welcoming the move, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said, “We welcome the announcement of the resumption of relations between Somalia and Kenya, following persistent Qatari diplomatic efforts to bring peace and stability between them.”
He said, “A new diplomatic achievement for Qatar, through which we hope that it will bring good and prosperity to the two neighbouring countries, their peoples, and the region as a whole.”
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) welcomed the resumption of full diplomatic relations between Kenya and Somalia. It expressed the hope that this step would bring good and prosperity to the peoples of the two friendly countries.
The MoFA affirmed that Qatar will spare no effort in achieving peace and stability and building bridges through mediation, activating diplomatic channels and converging views, which will enhance international peace and stability.
