The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) yesterday celebrated receiving the Diamond level accreditation and, first in the world, People Centred Care Commitment Award by Accreditation Canada.
The People Centred Care Commitment Award distinguishes corporations that demonstrate quality and excellence in the design and delivery of patient-centred health care, with PHCC being the first recipient of the award internationally.
The online virtual ceremony was attended by Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari and Managing Director of PHCC Dr Mariam Abdul Malik.
The designation places PHCC among an elite class of healthcare organisations globally that demonstrate excellence in key areas, including successfully launching initiatives which invite patients to become members of key committees, such as the Ethics Committee and the Quality Patient Safety Committee, enabling them to be part of key decisions in the design and development of service. It validates that Qatar healthcare system is not only respectful and responsive to individual preferences, but also continuously adopting the perspectives of individuals, families and communities and sees them as partners as well as beneficiaries of trusted healthcare system.
PHCC has undergone a very lengthy and vigorous accreditation process during the pandemic. The five-month accreditation process involved hundreds of evidence submissions, virtual meetings with the surveyor teams and hybrid onsite surveys at all health centres. It has achieved highest Diamond Level accreditation for an unprecedented second time.
Speaking during the event, HE Dr Al Kuwari noted that this remarkable achievement was made possible thanks to the State’s unlimited capabilities and support to the health sector, in addition to the commitment and enthusiasm of the teams involved in gaining the achievement.
“Achieving this accreditation is testament to the tireless efforts of the PHCC team and the dedication to achieving the highest standard of care for our communities. The corporation has demonstrated its commitment to delivering the most efficient and compassionate care during a challenging period for healthcare internationally,” said the minister.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr Mariam Abdul Malik said, “Receiving this award reflects the values of PHCC; it recognises the exemplary efforts by the staff in ensuring that we are delivering effective, high quality care to our patients.”
She added that the corporation continues to work hard to maintain excellence in all its services, to deliver care that understands and exceed patients’ expectations.
