The Pink Supermoon illuminated the sky over Qatar, as well as the rest of the country recently. It was an astronomical phenomenon that occurred while the moon was at its perigee, or the point in its elliptical orbit where it was nearest to the Earth, when the moon was 357 thousand kilometres away.
To capture the beauty of the scene, the Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) collaborated with astro-photographer Vinay Swaroop Balla to capture stunning images of the pink moon from the top of the Torch Tower and several other famous Doha towers.
Coinciding with this astronomical phenomenon, QNTC unveiled new astro-tourism experiences in partnership with private sector partners to shed light on the country’s hidden gems of natural and heritage sites. Activities include a moon-lit camel safari and stargazing in the desert with an astronomer guide, safari tours, and BBQ dinner banquets by the campfire in Qatar’s special natural wonders, which boast a wonderful panoramic view.
With the anticipated gradual return of global travel and tourism, a bespoke selection of these newly introduced “Arabian Nights” packages is expected to draw travellers and visitors from around the world, with the goal of strengthening Qatar’s status as a favoured tourist destination in the Middle East.
