Kabul: The number of people who have died in Afghanistan due to flooding has increased to at least 54, the country’s National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said on Wednesday.
Over a dozen people are missing as flooding was reported in 15 of the country’s 34 provinces since the weekend, ANDMA spokesman Ahmad Tamim Azimi said. On Tuesday officials reported 33 deaths across the country. Nearly half of the victims are from the country’s western Herat province where several districts were hit severely, according to officials. In addition to the human losses, nearly 1,000 residential houses have been destroyed, either partially or completely, and 2,450 animals have perished, according to the authority. (dpa)
