In addition to the online session, special toolbox talks and safety and health awareness sessions were held at the project sites of a leading Qatari construction company with COVID protocols in place. Satish G. Pillai, Executive Director of Galfar, opened the virtual session by emphasising that the current pandemic situation has created a stressful situation for everyone; however, commitments to clients must be upheld, so it is critical to learn how to be resilient by prioritising mental health and learning coping strategies.Dr. Farah explained in her presentation that, while Mental Health has always played an important role in Construction Safety and Health, the COVID 19 pandemic has heightened the need for raising awareness about the importance of maintaining Mental Health in order to prevent incidents at work and at home. She went on to offer helpful advice on how to care for one’s mental health, including lifestyle changes such as sleep regulation, healthy diets, and exercise, as well as seeking professional help from counsellors and psychiatrists when necessary.
