The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), which works under the Embassy of India, has distributed health cards to some 75 Indian fishermen on May 1, the International Labour Day, in Doha. Ambassador of India to Qatar HE Dr Deepak Mittal handed over the cards to the fishermen.
ICBF President Ziad Usman, in his presidential address, spoke about the difficulties faced by low-income workers due to COVID-19. He highlighted the proactive measures being taken by the embassy to reach out to such workers from the Indian community in Qatar.
Chief guest HE Dr Mittal appreciated the novel idea to distribute health cards to fishermen. “We are a big family of 700,000 Indians in Qatar and every member of this family is taken care of by the ICBF and the Indian Embassy, whenever they are in need,” he said.
He thanked ICBF for “organising the Heal India Campaign in Qatar by mobilising oxygen and essential medical supplies to our brothers and sisters back in India, who are facing most challenging time due to the pandemic”. The event was attended by ICBF Coordinating Officer SRH Fahmi, Vice President Vinod V Nair, General Secretary Sabith Saheer nad Manibharati of Qatar Tamil Sangam (QTS), along with Management Committee members of ICBF.
