The Translation and Interpreting Institute Language Center (TII-LC), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), will collaborate on educational exchanges with the Center of Applied Linguistics (CLA) at the University of Franche-Comté, France, under a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Dr. Amal Al-Malki, founding dean of CHSS, and Arnaud Pannier, director of the CLA, recently signed a two-year memorandum of understanding. The agreement calls for collaboration in several areas of French language education, including the development of teaching and tutoring activities.

Language courses, conferences, seminars, forums, and/or internships will be part of the academic and teaching activities. TII-LC currently provides French language instruction at several levels. The MoU will support this work by facilitating the development of teaching and analytic expertise in French language teaching through exchanges involving TII-LC students and teachers. Students in the French program will be able to study abroad, while faculty and staff will benefit from CLA''s professional internships on campus following the pandemic.
“We are delighted at the opportunity to collaborate with an institution that has been widely recognized for its deep commitment and expertise in promoting the French language,” said Dr. Nima Nazari, Director of the Language Centre at HBKU. At TII''s Language Center, we are committed to assisting our teaching staff in continuously improving their professional practices and providing students with the opportunity to learn a language in its cultural context. The agreement establishes a number of extremely beneficial avenues to support these objectives.”

The University of Franche-Comté’s CLA director, Arnaud Pannier, said: “The agreement with Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s TII-LC affirms our mutual institutional goal of pursuing excellence in language learning. We look forward to many new opportunities to support their teaching teams and believe the agreement will greatly enhance the learning of their students.”
