The 8th Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG) Conference was held on a virtual platform recently with the participation of 1,800 delegates from all over the world. The conference also hosted the General Assembly of the DASG.
Prof Akhtar Hussain, president of DASG, inaugurated the conference, in the presence of President-elect of IDF Dr Andrew Boulton.
Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq, executive director, Qatar Diabetes Association, delivered a lecture on ‘Challenges in Diabetes Prevention Program in DASG Countries’.
“The alarming magnitude of the diabetes epidemic has made prevention of TD2M a top priority, based on the belief that preventing the disease will also prevent its short- and long-term consequences. Clinical trials worldwide have proven that diabetes can be prevented by intensive lifestyle interventions,” he said.
At the General Assembly of DASG, the Executive Board elected members of the Management Committee.
Prof Mesbah Kamel from Egypt was elected as the president, Dr Banshi Saboo from India as vice-president, Ashraf PV from Qatar as treasurer, Dr Bishwajit Bhowmik from Bangladesh as the secretary-general, and Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq from Qatar as a Board member of DASG.
