Qatar, represented by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), hosted the 87th meeting of the Arab Coordination Group at the level of general directors to discuss issues related to the development and humanitarian sector.
This is the first time QFFD is organising the meeting since joining the group in 2014.
The meeting, which was held via videoconferencing, aims to enhance coordination and increase the effectiveness of development interventions, as views were exchanged on a number of areas related to policies and processes and information on the funds provided to each of the group members.
The participants also reviewed the status of some countries and projects of a special nature and discussed the group’s relationship with regional and international financing institutions.
In a statement, Deputy Director-General of Development Projects at QFFD Misfer Hamad Al Shahwani said that it has become increasingly urgent to address international development challenges that threaten not only disastrous consequences for societies around the world, but also undermine the development achievements made so far.
For his part, Secretary of the Arab Coordination Group Ez Eldeen Boushalgham said the institutions of the Arab Coordination Group seek to continue their joint efforts to support economic and social development in the partner countries, especially with the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group’s institutions continued their coordination meetings, which culminated in the issuance of a joint statement confirming the groups pledge to allocate $10 billion to assist developing countries in their immediate response and their endeavours to achieve economic recovery. (QNA)
