Al Shaqab Racing’s Zwelela (FR) (Toronado x Umm Bab) scored her second straight victory when she took the attheraces.com Handicap at Wolverhampton in UK on Monday.
Quickly out of the stalls in the 1,400m class 4 race for 3-year-olds rated 0-85, ZWELELA found herself on the lead for the first 300 metres.
Very keen initially, she was quickly dropped back into third position by jockey Rossa Ryan with Rhoscolyn (Territories x Zeyran) taking up the running.
Cuban Dancer, another son of Toronado out of Mambo Halo, took up second place in the bend.
Once in the straight, Zwelela was switched to the outside and showed a smart acceleration off a quick pace to hit the front with 200 metres left to run. She ran strongly to the line to win by ¾ length in front of Choritzo (Lethal Force x Choral Festival).
This was a second consecutive win for the Richard Hannon-trained filly following her success at Lingfield over the same distance and also on the all-weather on March 19.
Zwelela, the daughter of Toronado, was bred by Al Shaqab Racing. Although her dam, Umm Bab BAB (Sea the Stars), never raced, she has generated Westeros (Kingman), who has twice finished second in as many starts.
Her progeny’s record has been further enhanced with Zwelela’s second victory at Wolverhampton.
