Yangon: Reports of at least a dozen more deaths, mingled with stories of prisoner abuse and continued protests, trickled out of Myanmar on Wednesday, with no sign of the clashes prompted by February’s military coup easing any time soon.
Reporting remains challenging, as the ruling junta has expanded its practice of shutting down the internet at night-time to also include large chunks of the day without internet service. The newspaper The Irrawaddy reported that 11 people died after clashes with security forces in the small city of Kalay in the north.
According to other media reports, two more people died in Bago, the country’s fourth-largest city, which lies in the south. (dpa)
