Qatar came close to administering 900,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday.
With this rapid rate, Qatar is also on the verge of administering a million doses within a few days.
According to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), 21,993 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of vaccine doses given to people since the launch of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme to 889,202.
Qatar has ramped up the vaccination pace, with the vaccine becoming available at all the health centres of the Primary Health Care Corporation. Now, there are two drive-through vaccination centres — Lusail and Al Wakra — that have significantly contributed to the increase in the number of people getting vaccinated.
Qatar is using
Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for the vaccination programme.
The MoPH said the pace of the vaccination programme means that there is finally hope of a gradual return to normal in Qatar. But this will not happen in the next few weeks or months.
“COVID-19 will continue to be a threat to our health for the most of 2021 and until all eligible members of our population have been vaccinated, we must continue to follow the preventive measures such as adhering to physical distancing, wearing a face mask and washing hands regularly,” the MoPH added.
Meanwhile, Qatar on Saturday reported 870 COVID-19 cases — 748 from community and 122 from travellers returning from abroad.
Also, 468 people recovered from the virus during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in Qatar to 165,471. The ministry reported three new deaths for people aged 49, 71, and 76, who were receiving the necessary medical care.
