The head coach of Qatar national football team Felix Sanchez said on Tuesday that the team is in high spirits as they look to start their matches in the European World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
Sanchez was speaking at the press conference held to discuss his team’s preparations for the match against Luxembourg in Group A of the qualifiers on Wednesday at 8pm Doha Time.
He said that the match will not be easy, noting that Luxembourg have a number of good players in their team. He also noted that the Qatari players have grown accustomed to high-pressure games.
“Our players are accustomed to the pressure of matches, facing Luxembourg, Azerbaijan, and Ireland in less than a week will not pose a problem for us given the strength of the squad,” said Sanchez.
He added that playing three matches in a week is nothing new for the players, especially given the circumstances and the quality of the opposition. He stressed that the team will look to get good results in the qualifiers, even though they are the host of the World Cup.
For his part, Qatar’s captain Hassan Al Haydos said that participating in the European World Cup qualifiers will be a different challenge compared to the ones the team faced in the past. He added however that the team is glad to get the experience as they prepare for the World Cup.
“We are happy to participate in the European qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA
World Cup in Qatar and we hope to achieve a good result during the match against
Luxembourg,” he said.
