Qatar University (QU) was ranked 26th overall in the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings for 2021, entering the top 30 for the first time. A total of 606 universities from 48 emerging economies were evaluated.
Among 55 Arab universities, QU is ranked third in the Arab world indicating its strength of excellence in the region. In the research component, which evaluates reputation survey, research income and productivity, the university comes in second.
Qatar University continues to rank first in the international outlook category, which indicates QU’s success in attracting students and faculty from around the world, a key component for any university looking to have global impact.
QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham said, “The university is proud to place 26th in the THE Emerging Economies University Rankings for 2021. This achievement signifies the improvement of Qatar’s economic sector, which in turn has positively and noticeably impacted the education sector.”
He noted that the achievement highlighted the continuous progress of Qatar University both in its regional and international role and vision of being at the forefront of institutions through delivering academic excellence, impactful research and strong partnerships with industry.
Chief Knowledge Officer of THE Phil Baty said, “Qatar University’s strong march up the 2021 World University Rankings is echoed in the new Emerging Economies Rankings but the additional context and focus provided by the Emerging Economies Rankings allows us to see the full extent of the improvement.”
