The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the commencement of construction of a two-level interchange, within the works of Street 33 Upgrade Project in Industrial Area, to link Street 33 with West Industrial Street.
Ashghal said the old roundabout that connects West Industrial Street with Street 33 will be replaced with a two-level interchange, which includes a traffic signal at ground level to streamline traffic in all directions and a 2.18-km-long bridge passing over traffic signal to provide free flow traffic along Street 33.
The new interchange is considered to be an important link for commuters from Doha towards West Industrial Street, commuters from Bu Sidra Interchange on Salwa Road and commutes from Bu Sala Interchange on G-Ring Road towards Industrial Area via Street 33 and vice versa. It will serve many vital entities, commercial and industrial facilities in the area, as the West Industrial Street extends between Salwa Road and G-Ring Road.
The new interchange will also facilitate traffic movement in the direction of Al Taqa Street that connects between Salwa Road at Al Sailiyya Interchange and G-Ring Road at Al Bahia Interchange.
Ashghal will implement a new traffic diversion on the roundabout connecting Street 33 and West Industrial Street in the Industrial Area. Thus, all existing lanes will be open to traffic from Friday, March 12, 2021 for a period of six months to allow the roundabout to be converted to a two-level intersection.
Engineer Nasser Al Dalmouk from Highway Projects Department of Ashghal said so far, more than 35 percent of works of Street 33 Upgrade Project in Industrial Area are completed.
He added that the new interchange will contribute to enhanced traffic flow in the area, especially as it connects two vital roads in the area, West Industrial Street and Street 33.
Ashghal has started implementing a new interchange on Street 33 replacing the old roundabout that connects Al Kassarat Street with Street 33. The two-level interchange includes traffic signal to streamline traffic in all directions at ground level, and a bridge that passes above the traffic signal to provide free flow along Street 33.
Upon completion, the new interchange will be an important link for commuters from Doha towards Al Kassarat Street and vice versa, as Al Kassarat Street extends from north to south of Industrial Area, connecting Street 1 through Street 52.
Ashghal is also upgrading the 5-km-long Street 33 in Industrial Area into an expressway providing free flow traffic from East 33 Interchange on the East Industrial Street and the Industrial Area Road to the West Industrial Street.
The project includes increasing number of lanes of Street 33 from three lanes in each direction to four lanes in each direction, accommodating about 16,000 vehicles per hour.
The works also include construction of two new interchanges of two levels linking Street 33 with Al Kassarat Street on one hand and West Industrial Street on other, replacing the existing roundabouts.
The project will be implemented with about 80 percent locally manufactured materials such as lighting poles, lamps, signboards, pipes of drainage and rainwater drain, asphalt and precast manholes, concrete and reinforced steel.
Street 33 Upgrade Project in Industrial Area also includes construction of new infrastructure for water, electricity and communication networks, treated water lines for irrigation of green areas, as well as upgrading drainage network and rainwater drainage network.
