The Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), will hold its 11th International Translation Conference on March 24.
Registration is open to all researchers, practitioners and students interested in the field.
TII has designed this year’s conference format as a series of online academic panels, keynote speeches and a specialised interpreting webinar.
The conference will be held under the theme “COVID 19 and Current Changes in Translation and Interpreting Studies” and will explore how the pandemic is reshaping translation and interpretation, academically, professionally and socio-economically.
Translation theory, translator training after the outbreak of COVID-19, interpreter narratives of the COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 meets Twitter, conference interpreter experience, ‘Localising’ COVID-19, and Work-Family Interface and Job Outcomes between translators and interpreters are among the topics to be considered.
The 11th TII Conference will be attended by 17 speakers from more than 10 countries, including but not limited to the United Kingdom, the United States, Qatar, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Algeria and Slovakia.
Ahead of the international forum, Dr. Amal Al-Malki, Founding Dean, CHSS, said: “The annual International Translation Conference was launched for the first time in 2010 to set up a Gulf platform to discuss translation-related issues at both theoretical and practical levels. It is imperative that the 11th version of the conference focuses on the impact of the global pandemic on the study and practice of translation and interpretation.
The conference will focus on scholarly interventions and showcase applied research outputs that conceptualise the changes caused or accelerated by the pandemic as they
relate to intercultural communication.
TII invites everyone to participate in its 11th International Translation Conference, and we look forward to welcoming an exceptionally diverse audience, given the virtual format of the conference.”
Early registration is strongly encouraged. To learn more about the program and to register, please visit http://tii.qa/11th
