The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) will celebrate on Friday Qatar’s Environment Day, which falls on February 26 each year.
Activities will be held in several areas in the presence of ministry officials, and will continue until Saturday. The programmes will include cleaning and rehabilitation of beaches.
Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie said in a statement on this occasion that Qatar, under the wise leadership of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is keen on protecting the environment and its natural balance, in order to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development for all generations, as it placed environmental development as one of the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
He said the celebration stresses the importance of the environment and its preservation and sustainability for future generations.
The minister added that through the second national development strategy and the strategic plan of the MME (2018-2022), clear goals have been set to achieve the country’s environmental sustainability, and the ministry works through many projects and initiatives to achieve these strategic environmental goals, and to enhance environmental protection, sustainability and integration.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Eng. Hassan Bojumhur Al Mohannadi affirmed that the allocation of a day every year to celebrate the environment in Qatar is evidence of the state’s interest in this
issue.
