Qatar Airways Holidays, the leisure division of Qatar Airways Group, celebrated the enormous success of the Travel Bubble Holidays to the Maldives – the longest-running, uninterrupted safe corridor – welcoming the passengers of the last inbound flight to Qatar which landed at the Hamad International Airport (HIA) on Saturday.
Qatar Airways Holidays was delighted to present the last returnees with gifts bags and a special offer code to be redeemed against the total cost of their next holiday as a special thank you for their support. One lucky passenger on the flight also received a QR5,000 voucher, which can be used against any future Qatar Airways Holidays booking.
During this challenging period of COVID-19, causing massive disruption to the international travel industry, Qatar Airways Holidays established a safe travel environment between Qatar and the Maldives, giving Qatari citizens and residents the opportunity to revive their holiday plans.
Since the launch of the safe travel corridor in November 2020, Qatar Airways Holidays operated more than 70 flights to and from the Maldives, resulting in over 3,000 passengers enjoying a much-needed vacation without the requirements of exceptional entry permits, quarantine or self-isolation restrictions.
Three high-end luxury properties were exclusively made available for the travel bubble guests, enabling 8,000 hotel-stay nights to be booked. The travel bubble was non-stop despite the continually evolving circumstances from the global response to COVID-19.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said, “We are delighted with the huge success of these holiday packages to the Maldives, which were carefully and custom-designed to offer an exclusive and safe travel experience to our passengers. The achievement of operating with no interruption, the longest-running travel bubble, highlights the fastidious measures and procedures we have employed to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our passengers.”
Earlier this year, Qatar Airways has become the first global airline in the world to achieve the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax, following HIA’s success as the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a Skytrax 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating.
